Oh My Gosh! I had this exact same experience, and like you I wracked my brain thinking it was because I had written this or written that. I even sent page long emails explaining what I wrote was just satire, etc. But three days later they told me I was caught in a spam filter.

That cost me money. During that time one of my stories had been curated and I would have gotten a lot of claps.

They never really explained how I got caught. I sent a nice letter saying, guys, please, I”m paranoid now, what do I do to avoid getting caught in this again and getting suspended. Nothing.

I’ve been paranoid since. This happened a couple weeks ago. I was thinking of writing about it too, but now I don’t have to!

Thanks.

What it has done is show me how powerless is the position of the Medium writer. I mean, I’ve written a whole blog about it months ago, how these big internet companies are tantamount to feudal lords, and these “ecosystems” are really feudal estates and we are serfs with no rights.

Really, three days of emailing and they couldn’t tell me it was a spam suspension. They just let me twist in the wind.

Awful.

What if I decided to quit my dayjob and only rely on this for a living. It showed me how stupid that would be because they can take it all away in a second, and everything we build will be wiped away in an instant.

I got a “sorry” but no real apology if you know what I mean. I got the feeling they didn’t care. For example, when I was reactivated it no longer had me as a top writer in satire or humor. I emailed them about that and they claimed it was impossible to reinstate that and the “system” would have to do that in it’s own time. What is this, some kind of AI overlord?

Really disturbing. A human can’t go in and enter me as a top writer in satire.

Sounds like something worth satirizing, eh?
