Who Is Cornering the Trigger Market?
Humor attempts to spread mirth. It is so unfortunate when that attempt lands badly or makes someone uncomfortable. Whenever I do that, I immediately apologize.
But not this time — I’m triggered I tell you.
What, I can’t be triggered, too? Do you have a corner on this trigger market?
Let me back up and explain it for the folks at home. A response to a story came, the person said that they were really triggered by my attempt to make comedy out of driving erratically since a loved one of hers was injured in a car crash.
“I started reading this article thinking it was going to have some writing and blogging tips, and then you throw in this stuff comparing writing to driving erratically or speeding. I was totally unprepared for that and it was so unnecessary. Do you know how many people are killed by car accidents? My relative was almost killed. It’s so triggering to me, I had no idea that’s what this article was going to be about.”
[NOTE: OMG this quote might trigger someone — relax, I’m not picking on anybody. It’s not real, it’s an approximation of about three or four different triggered people’s responses to various articles here on Medium, my own…
